To create a desktop shortcut for your internet connection, open the Network Connections folder. To do so, click Start, type ncpa.cpl and press ENTER.
Right-click on the dialup connection, and choose Create Shortcut. Click Yes when you see the following message:
Windows cannot create a shortcut here.
Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?
Alternately you can drag the icon to the desktop, in order to create a shortcut for that network connection on the desktop.
Note that the Connect To icon in the Start Menu does not cascade (unlike Windows XP), but simply opens the dialog containing the list of network connections.
1. Double-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows 95/98 desktop.
2. Double-click on Dial-Up Networking.
3. Right-click on the XXXXXX.Net dialer icon.
4. Click on Create Shortcut, say Yes to the pop-up message to place it on the desktop.
5. Close out the Dial-Up Networking and My Computer windows.
You now have a new shortcut on the desktop called "Shortcut to Amigo.Net." To connect, simply double-click on the icon and a "Connect To" box will appear. Make sure that the user name, password and connection phone number are correct and click on Connect. When you connect a small window will appear stating that you are connected. Then you may double-click on the Internet Explorer icon and Internet Explorer will open.
